Alyssa Joyner is an artist, writer, and photographer based in Connecticut. As a self-taught creator, her process is a balance of learned artistic techniques and spontaneous improvisation.  The resulting work is expressive, cohesive, and accessible to the participating viewer. She was selected as a top-candidate for the University of Connecticut's Digital Media & Design degree program, where she attends in Stamford, CT.

'In an Instant' is a set of photographs that document the everyday life of a single, professional woman. The subject material ranges from found objects and curated spaces, to completed home improvement and DIY projects. I am surviving through a period of history that feels dark, and alienating. However, these are the conditions necessary for a seed to take root. ‘Instants’ is an act of gratitude, of affirmation, and a detachment practice - to learn to let go and find solace in the present moment.

“In an Instant” is a collection of Polaroid photographs created as a means of grounding myself in the present and coping with the isolation experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The work of an artist featured in an NPR article inspired me to embark on this project, initially as a hobby. This practice has continued to evolve, reflecting the changes in my environment, circumstances, and experiences.
